Malcolm in the Middle Revival: Dewey Recast & New Characters Introduced
Disney+ is bringing back Malcolm in the Middle with a fresh revival, but not everyone from the original cast is returning. Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey in the original series, has officially retired from acting and will not be part of the new show. Instead, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark (Fargo, The Expanse) will take over the role.

The revival will also introduce new Wilkerson family members. Anthony Timpano (Riverdale, Nancy Drew) will portray Jamie, the youngest brother, while Vaughan Murrae (Before I Change My Mind, The Way Home) will play Kelly, a new sibling hinted at in the original show’s finale.
Who’s Returning?
The revival is bringing back several familiar faces, including:
- Frankie Muniz as Malcolm
- Bryan Cranston as Hal
- Jane Kaczmarek as Lois
- Christopher Masterson as Francis
- Justin Berfield as Reese
New characters will also be introduced, including Malcolm’s daughter Leah, played by Keeley Karsten (The Fabelmans, Hunters), and his girlfriend Tristan, portrayed by Kiana Madeira. Leah is described as highly intelligent, sarcastic, and impulsive—just like Malcolm—but with a more sensitive side.
Storyline & Production Details
The revival follows Malcolm and his daughter as they get pulled back into family chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary. The show is set to begin filming soon in Vancouver.
Linwood Boomer, the creator of the original series, returns as writer and executive producer, with Bryan Cranston also serving as an executive producer. The four-episode limited series is produced by 20th Television and New Regency, with Ken Kwapis directing all episodes.
